Today I received my Lowepro Pro Roller x300 and I can not tell you how excited I was to try out this new camera roller bag. I have had shoulder bags, backpacks, and now a very useful roller. There is never a good reason not to have a bigger bag (expect if you need to travel via plane) so I was very excited to pack this bag to the edge!

Before I had to travel with two bags to all of my shoots, one for camera bodies, lens, batteries, sound equipment, microphones, and cabling, etc and another bag with my additional camera toys that I bring on all of my shoots. It is great to have everything I would ever need for a video shoot with me for all of my shoots. Thanks Lowepro!

New Orleans has Mardi Gras...San Francisco has the historic Bay to Breakers 12k.

Colemanfilm recently produced a 30-second TV spot to celebrate this years 100th race!

The 100-year old Bay to Breakers 12k is one of the world’s largest and oldest footraces, held annually in San Francisco, California. The name reflects the traditional course which takes tens of thousands of participants from the northeast end of the downtown area near The Embarcadero (the "bay" side of the city) to the west end of the city and the "breakers" of Ocean Beach. The 7.46 mile (12 kilometer) race features world-class athletes in addition to costumed runners and 'fun-loving' folks out for a great day of running and walking through San Francisco.

The vision and showmanship of Walt Disney has touched more corners of the world and hearts through his many films and theme parks. Since opening his first park "Disneyland" on July 17, 1955, Walt and his team of dream makers known as "Imagineers" have created many theme parks around the world.

The SoundWorks Collection pulls back the curtain on the talented Imagineers who are responsible for the sounds and music of the Walt Disney theme park properties. In our exclusive video profile we explore the history and role of the audio team as they share their stories and creative challenges. We also take a visit through the original John James "Jimmy" MacDonald sound effects collection, which explores some of the classic Disney sound effects.

"Disneyland will never be completed.
Insight: Becoming a Mobile and Offline World

The United Nations predicts the global human population will reach about 6.3 billion by the end of 2009. Technology analysts predict that, by then, 2.6 billion mobile phones will be in use. That works out to 41 percent of the global population carrying mobile phones by the end of 2009.

The wide adoption of mobile devices has helped to create a culture of availability. We are slowly reaching a point when the mobile world will no longer be handicapped by wireless data speeds. Everything we currently do "online" will also be done offline and in the palm of our hand.

One of the best indicators of this push for mobile accessibility is to watch the change of such industries as print, movies, radio, tv, and music. All of these industries are slowly changing how they are experienced by their audiences with the introduction of such mobile devices and services as the Kindle, Pandora Radio, Sirus/XM Radio, Hulu, iPhone, and Blackberry.

If your company or product was no longer going to be experienced through its traditional platform, how would you want to be experienced offline and on a mobile device?

"Cooking with Coleman" Cinesource Magazine Article

Check out a recent feature article from the Bay Area film industry newspaper "Cinesource Magazine" who wrote an article about Michael Coleman's adventures and video work here in the Bay Area. <A HREF="http://cinesourcemagazine.com/index.php?/site/comments/cooking_with_coleman/"_blank">Read Here

In just a few years since leaving Expression College, Michael Coleman has carved a noticeable place for himself as a self-driven producer of video content that appears in surprising places. Flipping the pages of last month’s Vanity Fair, I paused at a two-page spread promoting the Lexus Hybrid Living Campaign, a video series Coleman produced for Articulate Design.

Using his success as winner of Alice Radio’s 3-minute film contest, Coleman built Colemanfilm Media Group as producers of Web-exclusive stories, videos, and short-segment profiles. He approaches new clients with self-confidence, indicating that he’ll do an innovative job that they didn’t suspect was needed. Coleman is now an exclusive producer for FM radio station KFOG’s video concerts and performer interviews.

Five years ago, when he picked up the camcorder at school, Coleman was riding the crest of the rushing video wave (YouTube) and online movie distribution flooding the industry. Kim Salyer, co-founder of Video Arts, says, “He may have been ahead of the game on the conversion concept. In addition to video turning digital, which led to high def bringing film and television closer together, it seems like Mike saw the possibilities of bringing video to the Web – and at the right time.”

When Coleman first approached KFOG, the idea of using visual media for promotion was unique. “What an interesting situation to have hot content and private concerts with access to great artists – what an opportunity! – to videotape these concerts and take them online. I discussed prospects for free distribution on the Internet.”

The radio station put Coleman’s stylish videotaped concerts online, saw new traffic generated, and soon recognized the ad revenue that could be leveraged with the website. Coleman’s pitch to the marketing director on a single pilot program spurred her to try it online – with immediate results. That one pilot grew into a fifteen-segment project, which helped KFOG realize the potential for their website and their listeners.

Coleman is currently producing two or three private concert videos every month. Local program and marketing departments have become believers that music listeners will spend equal time online. Coleman explained, “What we have created is a way for people to go to the KFOG website, let their cursor roll over concerts by people like Sarah McLaughlin, and hear quality sound on demand.”

As a producer, Coleman developed content for Mix (a leading magazine for the recording and sound production industry), shaping a body of sound profiles in the studio. “Colemanfilm Media Group is a way for me to market myself as an individual and, if it requires, I bring in other people as videographers, editors, writers, and any others I need. I hire Bay Area crew and I take my people to LA, Chicago, and New York whenever I can.” Coleman recently took his crew to ‘Remix Hotel Miami 2008,’ where he filmed more than 40 videos that captured the essence of the show’s classes, interviews, and product demos.

Coleman also tied up a pretty package for Mix Magazine’s Sound for Film Features when he shot video profiles for Sicko, There Will Be Blood, Ratatouille, and an interview with Ironman’s re-recording mixer Chris Boyes at Skywalker Sound. Recently, Coleman filmed a video profile of Skywalker Sound’s Oscar-winner Ben Burtt, sound designer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

“In recent years the delivery [Internet] bandwidth has gotten robust enough to carry good-looking video into the home. This kid was out in front of the curve with the use of video on the web,” said Salyer of Video Arts.

We’ll be watching the morphing of video in the hands of Michael Coleman. You can read about his pursuits in The Loop, our production column running online and in print.

One of the best videos we've seen all year.

INXS took a stab in the '80s, but no one has really touched the creativity of Bob Dylan's film clip for "Subterranean Homesick Blues," where he flips through words of the song on stacks of posterboard.
Career College Magazine Features Michael Coleman

"Michael Coleman, a 2004 Sound Arts graduate, was handed his diploma on a Friday and was in Boston working alongside Aerosmith the following Monday. Almost overnight Coleman found himself in a dream position assisting one of the college’s many adjunct professors, legendary record producer Jack Douglas, in cutting the band’s new CD, Honkin’ on Bobo. Since the 1960s, Douglas has produced a string of famed recordings, including several releases from John Lennon and The Who’s innovative 1971 studio album, Who’s Next?

Coleman has since developed his own production company. Colemanfilm Media Group has worked with its own distinguished list of corporate partners and musicians, topped by Lexus, Spin magazine, Darryl McDaniels of Run DMC, Mary Wilson of The Supremes, Ozomatli, Skywalker Sound and Pixar. Rising to the top in his field so quickly made relishing the experience of working with the legendary rock band impossible, Coleman said.

"It was just one of those things," Coleman said, "But it shows the education I got at Ex’pression was top- level. I went straight from instructors’ courses to a top-of-the-industry studio with top-of-the-industry artists and kept up. I could do everything they asked me to do."
